چکیده

We present the final reduction and calibration of the FIRBACK ISOPHOT data. FIRBACK is a deep cosmological survey performed at 170 μm. This paper deals with the ISOPHOT C200 camera with the C160 filter. We review the whole data reduction process and compare our final calibration with DIRBE (for the extended emission) and IRAS (for point sources). The FIRBACK source extraction and galaxy counts is discussed in a companion paper (Dole et al. 2001).

FIRBACK : I . A deep survey at 175 μ m with ISO , preliminary results

FIRBACK is a deep survey conducted with the ISOPHOT instrument aboard the Infrared Space Observatory (ISO) at an effective wavelength of 175 μm. We present here results we have obtained on the first field, the so-called Marano1 which covers around 0.25 square degree. We find that the source density for objects with a flux above 200 mJy exceeds the counts expected for sources found in the IRAS d...

Letter to the Editor First detections of FIRBACK sources with SCUBA

The FIRBACK (Far InfraRed BACKground) survey represents the deepest extensive 170 μm images obtained by the ISO satellite. The sources detected comprise about 10% of the Cosmic IR Background (CIB) seen by COBE, and, importantly, were observed at a wavelength near the peak of the CIB. Detailed follow-up of these sources should help pin down the redshifts, Hubble types, and other properties of th...

The ISO 170 μm luminosity function of galaxies

We constructed a local luminosity function (LF) of galaxies using a flux-limited sample (S170 ≥ 0.195 Jy) of 55 galaxies at z < 0.3 taken from the ISO FIRBACK survey at 170 μm. The overall shape of the 170-μm LF is found to be different from that of the total 60-μm LF (Takeuchi, Yoshikawa, & Ishii 2003): the bright end of the LF declines more steeply than that of the 60-μm LF. This behavior is ...

ISOCAM observations in the Lockman Hole - I ⋆ The 14 . 3 μ m shallow survey : data reduction , catalogue , and optical identifications . ⋆ ⋆

We present the image and catalogue of the 14.3 μm shallow survey of 0.55 square degrees in the region of the Lockman Hole (105203+572146, J2000) with the Infrared Space Observatory (ISO). The data have been analyzed with the recent algorithm by Lari et al. (2001) conceived to exploit ISO data in an optimal way, especially in the case of shallow surveys with low redundancy. Photometry has been a...

The Firback 175µm Survey

The FIRBACK project is a collaboration of eight institutes aimed at using long wavelength surveys with ISO to uncover the nature of the Cosmic Far-Infrared Background. We have surveyed nearly 4 sq. deg. in three regions in the northern and southern hemispheres with the ISOPHOT instrument on ISO, using the 175µm filter. As reported by Puget et al. (1998) and Reach et al. (these proceedings), the...
